Potatoes are in and they are BIG!!!

We are happy to report that all of the potatoes are harvested and we are bursting at the seems with what is a very large crop in both the amount and size of each potato.  The Green Thumb Chefs are available, they are a Round White variety that people often to refer to as our “winter keeper”.  Come on in and get yours today!!! Bean Harvesting

The heavy rain last week put a hault on the bean harvesting, but we hope to resume at the end of this week.  Please bear with us, we are as anxious as you are to get them out of the ground!  In the meantime check out these pictures of the harvesting operation. We love our new harvester!!!

Spirits are high on the farm these last few days as our new harvester arrived last week.  Spudnik is the manufacturer and this new machine allows us to harvest more potatoes faster.  The added bonus… The machine arrived as we had specified and worked perfectly which is a vast improvement on our old harvester which was in the shop quite often!

It is a GREAT day to be on the farm!

Not only is this day’s beauty one for the record books but we also decided to make it the start to our 2010 potato harvest!  Everyone was all smiles as we put the windrower and harvester to work.  This time of year we usually start by digging small sections for specific orders.  It allows us to work out the kinks in the equipment and break the warehouse packaging crew in slowly.  Ahead of our harvester a windrower digs 4 rows of potatoes and deposits them among the 4 rows that the harvester is set up to dig.  This allows the harvester to pick up the a total 8 rows with each pass...
