Potato farmers see strong season By The Mainebiz News Staff 03/07/11 Maine saw a strong potato harvest in 2010, with its value increasing 3% over the previous year. Preliminary figures from the National Agricultural Statistics Service report a harvest of 1.6 billion pounds with a value of $159.2 million, according to The Associated Press. The harvest in 2009 was valued at $154.2 million. Maine potato farmers planted nearly 55,000 acres in 2010, with a yield of 29,000 pounds per acre. Finally Winter!

Winter finally made an appearance on the farm, Mother Nature dumped 13 inches of the beautiful white stuff on us yesterday!  Out and about today I snapped this shot of a field that was covered with corn a few months ago.  Mount Washington was in the clouds but those that surround it sure did sparkle with the white stuff!
